Mercy Centre

5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Mercy Centre is a home to many children who lack homes and parents. This centre has children who are still in kindergarten providing them with an education, food, and a place to live. Furthermore, they also give scholarships to students so they could excel educationally when they are moving on to primary school.

I visited the Mercy Centre on December, 12th, 2020 and met many young and energetic children. We colored and played games like tag and duck duck goose. I was luck enough to have the chance to speak with a young girl and she talked about her favorite animals, cartoons, and princesses.

While I was there I realized how coming together as a community has given these children a better chance for a bright future. This is because it is not just one person contributing. Instead, it everyone from students to teachers to administrators and parents. Some people made donations that was used to help the children while some chose to come visit them. After the visiting the Mercy Centre I thought of how these are not the only children who lack a shelter and it is a global issue that we face. I think that as a global citizen we should find ways to bring more awareness to this topic.
