Girls JV Soccer Team

1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience

5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

In 2019 I joined the JV Girls Soccer team and I was a goalie. I started playing soccer in 2017. When I was playing I learned how to focus while being under pressure. Furthermore, I learned to collaboratively worked with my teammates. For example, I worked with the defenders and we planned out how we were going to stand during the corner kicks and who will get the ball from which area. It also required a lot of commitment because we had to go to weekly practices. I also developed new skills for instance, reacting quicker in order to catch the ball. Moreover, I also noticed that I still have to improve in goal kicks because I don’t kick hard enough. Therefore, one of my defenders would kick the goal kick for me. Playing soccer this year I recognized that every position is important in the team. This is because we have to work together in order to shoot the goal. The defenders and goalie would defend the goal and steal the ball from the other team giving it to the midfielder. Then the midfielder would give it to the striker who would then shoot the goal. It really shows that it takes a team to succeed. This year we competed in the AISAA league at Berkeley International School and with teamwork we got second place.

In my freshman year I had the chance to attend a volleyball tournament in Vietnam. Through this experience I faced challenges and identified several areas of growth that I had to continue practicing on. Additionally, I learned how working collaboratively as a team was beneficial to us because we continuously cheered and supported each other. During the tournament we would also help one another practice their area of weakness. For instance, I was struggling to serve and my teammates helped me practice by teaching my different techniques and position. Most importantly, it taught me about commitment since prior to the tournament we had to attend several practices each week after school.
